Some people think hypnosis is magic. However, most people enter into hypnosis-like trances on their own in everyday life. A trance state occurs when we become so focused that we tune out outside noise, conversations or activities. Have you ever been in a class and looked up only to realize you had drifted off to another place? Or perhaps you were driving and looked up and realized you had not been watching the road. These are natural trance states. The unconscious mind seems very ready to take suggestions for our higher good. I often teach clients self-hypnosis so that they may tap into their inner wisdom.

I have found hypnosis very helpful in reducing anxiety and healing phobias. I have successfully used hypnosis for smoking cessation and compulsive over eating. I often use hypnosis prior to EMDR to build inner resources, and at the resolution of a trauma target to reinforce positive new beliefs. I have had excellent results using hypnosis to facilitate healing following surgery. Hypnosis is also an excellent tool for pain management.
